Rayman: A Special Bond

If you have read my post about my Top PlayStation Games then you would know that I have been thinking a lot about the original console recently. So many, fantastic games and memories that helped shape me into the person I am today. One stands out from the pack and gives me a fond memory which I am about to share with you all now.

You may have already guessed, but this is all about Rayman and how it has created a memory and a special bond. I would also love to hear from you about your special moments and memories created by games on the original PlayStation, so let me know in the comments or on social media!

My Nan received a bonus from work and instead of spending it on herself, she chose to spend it on a PlayStation for her dear old grandson. Perhaps it was for herself because it meant that I would be preoccupied for hours instead of bugging her. I was allowed to pick out five games to go along with my new PlayStation so I started on my adventure through the GAME store and I picked out:

  • Rugrats: Search for Reptar
  • O.D.T.
  • Rayman
  • The Lost World: Jurassic Park
  •  Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee

Today, we are focusing on Rayman.

My parents had recently split up, so me and my dad were living with my grandparents. He no longer plays games anymore but when my parents were together, he used to play some of the classics on the Sega Megadrive. I am told that I used to sit and watch him play these games but I don’t fully remember.

I do remember Rayman though. I remember sitting next to my dad (sometimes in his lap) on the floor and looking up at the TV, seeing all of the wacky, cartoon-like artwork. I used to love it when Rayman would spin his fist and then let it fly at a huge plum, then seeing that plum land right on an enemy’s head! I could easily watch him play for hours.

Memories like this aren’t in abundance for me and it one of the only bonding experiences I have when it comes to me and my dad. It always makes me smile when I think back to this time. It’s my goal to make memories like this for my son, as soon as he can hold a controller.
